Cobra Key Systems - FAQs Print E-mail

Q: WHY use a Cobra Key Control System?
A: There are many reasons that you may need to control keys.
Consider the following points:
You many only need to make sure that keys are not removed from a particular key ring, which makes the Key Kop desirable.
Or you may need to know which keys are in the hands of which employee, in which case the Cobra System applies nicely.
Employee's release key is captured in the block where the keys belong. You can tell at a glance who has taken it.
The system is a simple, mechanical application. No fancy electronics nor expensive software updates to deal with.
Many sizes of wallboards and cabinets to accommodate your needs.
Specialty boards and cabinets are available.
"The Station" makes an ideal control system to keep keys with work orders. Ideal for Auto Service Centers, contractors, and anyone who needs to avoid the confusion of what key goes with which order!

Q: What is the difference between the regular Cobra Key Cabinets and the Cobra cabinet for the Key Kops?
A: Most Cobra cabinets and wallboards have the locking blocks placed closely side by side. We have had the Key Kop Cabinet designed with more space between the lock blocks to allow some added room for the Key Kops or other items.

Q: Does the Cobra Access key work in any block?
A: Yes. The employee access key can be used to release any of the rings in any of the blocks. But the key is retained until the key ring is restored to its original position.

Q: I don't fully understand how the release keys work. Just how does this system work?
A: Each cabinet is supplied with some access keys, and one master. The master key is for the person controlling the system. This key will release any of the rings on the board, without retaining it. All other keys are for personnel who are authorized to remove rings. In this case, the release key is inserted into the lock block, the ring is released, and the employee's key is retained. Once the ring is returned, the employee's key is released and may be used to retrieve any other key ring. The keys are not dedicated to any one key block, but in all cases, the numbered employee's key will indicate who has taken which ring.

Q: What can we put in the cabinets besides key rings?
A: It is possible to use the cabinet, space permitting for walkie talkies, scanners, or other sensitive things that you would like to see checked in and check out, while allowing you to see who took it.

Q: Can I order on-line?
A: We now sell our patent pending Key Kop locking key rings online at http://www.keykop.com/. All of our other products are not yet available to order online.

Q: What swing does the door on the cabinets have?
A: The doors come hung with hinges on the left, but they can be reversed to hang on the right.

Q: How long does it take a unit to ship?
A: Under most circumstances the units will ship within two or three days. Most orders will ship by UPS but larger orders may be more economical to ship by common carrier (commercial truck)
