Q: WHY a token operated pressure washer? A: CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING POINTS: Boat owners have invested considerable money into their craft. Salt spray, acid rain, bird droppings, scum and other forms of dirt all detract from the appearance of their craft. Providing a convenient pressure washer to clean it is a positive attraction for your facility. Aside from the fact that most boat owners take great pride in their boats, the thorough washing of the boat and trailer as it is pulled from the water minimizes the spread of invasive species from one body of water to the next. The spread of the Zebra mussel or the Quagga has been well publicized, but not many know the total consequences and the full impact of the issue. And there are many other species, both plant and animal, that are creating havoc. The environmental and economic damage is extensive. Clogged water inlets, deteriorated boating facilities, and the impact on watercraft is costly. And the spread is by HUMAN related activity!
How many spores, seeds, eggs, may be contained in the trash that has fouled the prop? See the water inlet for the engine. It too is clogged with plant matter. Do you want this moved to the next waterway in which you launch your boat? Do you want boat owners to transfer such critters to YOUR waterway?
According to California Fish and Game, you should: Inspect all exposed surfaces. Thoroughly wash the hull of each watercraft, its trailer, live well, and any buckets or other possible refuge for the larvae. This even includes buckets such as the children use at play, waders, and all other equipment in contact with the water. Drain the vessel's hull plug and ensure the area is dry. Any vessel traveling from one freshwater body to another should remain dry and out of the water for at least five days. This may seem extreme, but boater's impact on the very resources they treasure will degrade it irreparably. This may seem a small thing. We are all deluged with information about environmental issues. But the protection of our water ways has already become a very serious issue in every state in the US and in all countries around the world. We encourage you to check out: Protectyourwaters.net Damage to the environment goes beyond waterways!
Transfer of invasive species is an issue with ATV's, RV's and off-road vehicles. Mud and pieces of plants caught on such vehicles can spread plants and insects into areas which can cause ecological damage. Cleaning these vehicles is just as much an issue as it is for watercraft. Additionally, most car washes do not WANT an ATV cleaned in their facility. The muck will clog their traps. So providing a pressure washer for the patrons will be an asset to your facility, and a service to the environment.
Q: What provisions must be made for run-off / drains? A: Since we are using only water (NO DETERGENT OR OTHER CHEMICALS!), under high pressure, to clean with (there is NO soap injector on our units) there should be no issue with run off returning to lakes, streams, or even into local sewers. The problem may come if the users try to clean out bilges or motor compartments with it. Oils and other sludge are not welcome most places. It is important that users know this with appropriate signage. At the earliest part of your planning, check with your local appropriate local or state authority for their recommendation. Most areas restrict the flow of water back into the water way. Rather than building a more expensive permanent facility, another option may be portable pads that allow you to capture the run off, and direct it to re-cycle for watering plants or other purposes. These pads may be put away in the winter or during flooding and then easily placed again when needed. One of the most economical units we have seen is from Interstate Products. Designed for accidental spill containment, they are also ideal to contain run off from the pressure washer. Click Here for link to Interstate Products You may also consider, or may even be required,a water recovery/recycling installation.
Q: I do not wish to charge my customers for use of the pressure washer, after all, they paid their dock fees or launching fees. Why should I use a Token or Coin Operated pressure washer? A: Providing a pressure washer is an important part of your service to the customer. However, too often the service is abused. Water is wasted. Or someone who is not a client is using your facilities which you intended for your clients. By using tokens, you have not charged your customer for the service, but you have limited how long the washer runs, and how often they use it. You might supply each boater with a token when they come to launch, or once each month or some other time period. Or you may charge some modest sum for the token. Or a combination, that is you furnish tokens at no charge to clients, but charge anyone else who may come along. That is the whole point. YOU control WHO and HOW OFTEN they may use the device. But the big thing is that you have minimized the waste of your water, and the amount of time the unit is used. Clients at Marinas may be experienced boaters, sensitive to conservation and environmental issues, or they may be the occasional boater who is not aware that providing the nicer amenities of civilization in a remote location can be costly.
Q: What safety issues are there? A: First and foremost are responsible users!! Sober, and mature. Horseplay with a 2000 or 3000 PSI water nozzle can do serious damage to someone. As with any other device in your facility, you need to keep an eye on your customers. REMEMBER! THIS IS NOT A GARDEN HOSE!! THIS IS WATER UNDER HIGH PRESSURE! DO NOT TRY TO HOSE OFF YOUR FEET OR SOMEONE ELSE. YOU WILL REMOVE SKIN OR WORSE!! Secondly, it is recommended that users wear safety glasses. A bit of debris, or a flake of chrome or paint, blasted off at 2000 PSI can do serious harm to someones eyes.
Q: Where else might I want to use the Token Operated Pressure Washer? A:ATV Parks would be a good place for these units. Riders may take great pride in how muddy they and their rides get as they barrel around the trails, but they don't necessarily want to drag all of that earth home. Many car washes do not want to have to deal with all the mud in the traps and some have even posted signs, saying you can't wash ATV or Motor-cross bikes in their facilities. So a pressure washer at the ATV park is an excellent service for your patrons.
Q: Why tokens in a pressure washer? A: Tokens offer pricing flexibility. They are worth what YOU say they are worth. You may choose to offer them free to paid members of your facility, and outsiders will pay what you determine to be fair. Or you may choose to charge everyone who asks. The key point is YOU control who uses the units. Units are available for coin, but most facilities charge more than the $1.75 in quarters that the timer can accept. An additional factor is security. Tokens eliminate the use of coins in the timers, so there are no funds in the units to tempt vandals and thieves. We offer conventional tokens or special rim tokens that are more secure. We also offer several styles of special tokens for use with pump-out equipment, The MTD4 is illustrated. Two other types also available with a similar imprint.
For unattended facilities, there are changers available that accept bills and vend tokens. The changers can be situated in well lighted protected areas to vend tokens as needed.
Q: These timers are very nice. On what other applications might they be used? A: Meter housing and timers have been used on recreational lighting for tennis courts, picnic areas, etc. They are used on sanitary pump-outs, and many other electrical devices. They are offered in several different combinations of features, voltages and time ranges.
Q: Can I order on-line? A: We now sell our patent pending Key Kop locking key rings online at www.keykop.com. All of our other products are not yet available to order online.
Q:What options are available with the pressure washer? A: We offer a stand as an added option. We also offer the signs as illustrated that details instructions on the washer's use and disclaimers on damage. Please see the order form for the washer in PDF format. Click Here to see order form.
Q: What voltages are available for the pressure washer? A: We offer both 120 volt, 2hp motor and 2000 PSI output, and 220 volt single phase units, 5 hp motor with 3000 psi output.
Q: Can we use water from the nearby water way? A: NO - The pump is designed to work with a pressurized water supply. Insufficient supply will damage your pump. A gravity fed system is not acceptable. Water supply MUST be 20% higher than the pump rating. You can check this by seeing how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket and using a stop watch at the water source. Example: If the rated flow for the pressure washer is 3 Gallons Per Minute (GPM), then the required flow = 3 x 1.20 = 3.6 GPM To fill a 5 gallon bucket at 3.6 gpm = 1.39 Minutes 1.39 minutes x 60 seconds to the minute = 83 seconds to fill the bucket. Therefore you must be able to fill the bucket in 83 seconds or less to have a sufficient water supply. If the time exceeds 83 seconds, then a larger supply line must be used or pressure in the line needs to be higher.
Q: Are any timers available with bill validators? A: We currently do not have units with bill validators, but this is something we are currently working on.
Q: What are the hook up requirements? A: Pressure washers need to hard-wired in by a licensed electrician, according to local codes. There should be GFI to protect users. 120 Volt units require a minimum = 20 amp dedicated circuit and 230 volt units require a 30 amp dedicated circuit. The water supply must have adequate flow to serve the pump. See the question on water sources to compute your needs. Pumps that are starved for lack of water will overheat. Units should be secured to a solid surface, or if using our optional stand, secured to the ground to avoid tipping or accidentally pulling wiring or plumbing loose. The water supply should be by means of a flexible hose connection, no smaller than 5/8" and better yet if 3/4"
Q: What can the pressure washer be used to clean? A: Many items, Boats, RV's, ATV's, Cars, Trucks, Farm Equipment, Bicycles, Grills, and many other things. The token operation is primarily for the first five items.
Q: What Maintenance Issues are there? A: The oil in the pump needs to be changed periodically. After the first 15-20 hours of operation, or first 3 months of operation. After that, every 200 operating hours, or at least one each year. The oil should be changed, regardless of time, if the oil appears milky looking or if the level is low. (there is a sight glass on side of the pump) Oil MUST be clean and free of water at all times. Pumps MUST use only SAE30 NON-DETERGENT oil. Use of motor oil will cause a milky look and will not lubricate properly. WINTERIZATION: To put things in order for the winter, run RV Antifreeze into the unit. This will keep internal parts lubricated and rust free. Please use an environmentally friendly antifreeze!! Be sure to drain hoses as well. Details are in your operating manual furnished with the unit.
Q: What is the minimum order? A: The minimum became $50.00 per order. The amount is for product only, shipping is not a part of the minimum. When ordering tokens only, the minimum order is 200 pieces of any one style.
